A composite alkali aluminum hydroxide carbonate is produced industrially at a low cost and a high productivity by the reaction of a noncrystalline or pseudoboehmite hydrated alumina gel as the raw material with an alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate in an aqueous medium system. Also a composite lithium aluminum hydroxide carbonate is produced by using gibbsite hydrated alumina according to the migration method. The obtained composite alkali aluminum hydroxide carbonates (the alkali being either lithium or sodium) are excellent in the properties as a pigment and the blendability with resins. In addition, these composite salts are free from foaming troubles in the processing of resins, excellent in halogen trapping, infrared absorption and transparency as a resin filler, and particularly useful as a stabilizer (halogen trapping agent), a humectant (infrared absorber) and an anti-blocking agent for resin films.
|
