TOLERANCE RINGS

Tolerance rings (2) for linking components by friction are disclosed, the rings having one or more spaced apart corrugations (4, 6) on their surface wherein each corrugation extends substantially around the circumference of the ring. It is found that tolerance rings having corrugations extending around the circumference of the ring help to avoid distorting components as they provide a distributed contact along a line or a series of lines rather than at a series of points around the diameter of the mating components. This helps to prevent force concentrating at points around the ring at high compressive forces.
