Described is an axle journal, in particular for the front axle of a front-wheel-drive vehicle, the main body (30) of the journal being made up of sheet-metal parts (32, 34) which fit together to form an annular cavity (36). Fitted in the cavity (36) are appropriately shaped parts (43 and 46) of mounting components [brake mounting bracket (42) and combined mounting (45) for the steering track rod and the transverse linkage] which reinforce the journal (20). That part of the cavity not occupied by the reinforcing parts of the mounting components can be filled with foam. This journal design can be manufactured inexpensively since less machining is necessary, and can also be subjected to heavy loads, and thus meets today's requirements for lightweight construction.
