A clamping appts for joining together a pair of flanges comprises a locking ring having two circumferential rows of rollers engaging each contacting the distal flange surfaces of the pair of flanges, with at least one of the flanges having a number of slots sized to allow passage of the rollers, the distal surfaces having sloped areas cooperating with the rollers, such that rotation of the ring by an activator drive in one direction moves the rollers up the slopes and clamps the flange, whilst rotation of the ring in the reverse direction moves the rollers down the slopes and releases the flanges. The arrangement is applicable to a petroleum coke producer.
