The slatted mattress base has a back zone that can be raised and has a double head rest. This has a U-shaped frame (2) whose side bars (6) pivot on the mattress base. A second U-shaped frame (3) pivots on the first frame and moves telescopically on this when the back is raised. The back is raised by pivoting arms (12) and rods (21) and a back part (45) is joined to the rods. When the back is lowered the bars of the frames (6,18) are axially aligned. Each bar of the second frame rests on a support (23) joined to the bar of the first frame.
