A card has a first motor (M1) for the cylinder (12), a second motor (M2) for the doffer (2) and a frequency changer (121). To start the card the first motor (M1) is connected to the frequency changer (121) and the cylinder (12) is accelerated to approx. the working speed. The first motor (M1) is then disconnected from the frequency changer (121) and connected to the mains circuit (5) while the second motor (M2) is connected to the frequency changer (121). To stop the card the second motor (M2) is decelerated by the frequency changer (121) and then disconnected, after which the first motor (M1) is connected to the frequency changer (121) to decelerate the cylinder electrically. Also claimed is a card drive control circuit where two motors (M1,M2) can be fed and controlled alternately from a frequency changer (121).
