Apparatus for conveying prefabricated sections 1 of a track or road surface 4 comprises a hollow chassis or base member 2 formed with longitudinal and transverse flexible skirts 11 and 12 to enclose an air cushion 5 supplied through a flexible conduit 8 from a compressor 6 on a tractor 7, the tractor being connected to the member 2 for propulsion thereof by a coupling mechanism 20, 23 incorporating a linkwork 22 to allow for variations in spacing. The member 2 carries brackets 16, 17 provided with guiding rollers 18 which engage the sides of the section 4 and the skirts 11 are urged into contact with such sides by spring-urged pads 14, or inflatable edge members 15. Propulsion may be by jacks (not shown) or by running the tractor along the track 4. |
