1,080,997. Shelves. S. A. HIRSCH MANUFACTURING CO. March 31, 1966 [Oct. 21, 1965], No. 14390/66. Headings A4B and A4H. A rectangular steel shelf having a dependent rectangular box flange 24 on its longitudinal edges is secured to four tubular corner posts (10) having parallel side walls (50), 52 by a screw 16 which passes through an elongated aperture 82 in a stamping 14 releasably secured in an aperture 18 in the inner wall 28 of the box flange 24 and which engages a key or eggshaped hole (66) in the side wall (50) of the post. The axis of the screw is at an acute angle to the side wall (50). The minor diameter of the key hole equals the root diameter of the screw and the major dimension equals the root diameter plus the height of the thread. The stamping 14 comprises a flat flange (76) which rests against the inner face of the inner wall 28 of the box flange and a shoot 78 ending in a wall (80) in which the aperture 82 for the screw is formed. A finger tab (84) and a groove 86 or two finger tabs releasably engage the edges of the aperture 18 in the inner wall 28. The four corners of the shelf are cut away for reception of the corner posts (10) and the side walls of the corner posts have ribs (62) above and below the key holes (66) which enter the open end of the box flanges 24. End panels 19 are mounted between pairs of corner posts by passing their edges through slots 58 in the posts; the ends of the screws 16 enter notches 90 in the edges of panels. Each pair of corner posts is constituted by the legs of a U-shaped member and the key holes are disposed vertically upward in one post and downward in the other post of the same pair.
