A filter unit, Fig. 2 for gas or liquid filtration, consists of a plate-like filter element 3 with an aperture 4 therethrough and a correspondingly apertured spacing element 5 which has a plurality of projections 8, 13, 14, Fig. 3 upstanding from opposite surfaces thereof, the elements being secured face to face continuously around the outer peripheral edges of the elements with the apertures therethrough in register. The securing may be effected by welding, crimping, or turning over of the mating outer peripheral edges. The filter element 3 may be of sintered or woven material. The projections 8 may be formed by stamping or may be metal strips soldered to element 5 or may be in the form of bumps, pimples or bristles. A stack of filter units may also comprise washers (12), the filter elements 3 having coined recesses to form a seating for the washers. The filtration flow may be inwards and up through the filter elements 3 or outwards and down through the filter elements 3.</p> |
