A lens drive mechanism includes a shutter block 40; a lens group guided along an optical axis thereof relative to the shutter block; motors 29,30 for operating the shutter and moving the lens group; encoders for indicating the shutter opening size and the lens group position; a shutter driving gear train 45A and an encoder gear train 45B connecting the shutter and first encoder with the first motor and arranged along a circumferential direction of the shutter block; and a lens driving gear train 42A and a encoder gear train 42B connecting the lens group and second encoder with the second motor and being arranged along the circumferential direction of the shutter block, a driving pinion 29a of the first motor being positioned between the gear trains of the shutter and first encoder and a driving pinion 30a of the second motor being positioned between the gear trains of the lens and second encoder.
