In an excavation structure consisting of a slit wall (2) of a hardened single phase slit wall material, with a surface exposed at the excavation side, and spaced-apart vertical support elements (5) inserted in the slit wall material, the slit wall (2) forms a compartment (6) between the support elements (5) and the slit wall material includes a water-retaining light aggregate. Also claimed are (i) a method of producing the above excavation structure; and (ii) a building material mix for use in the method.
