The plates and separators of an electric storage battery are contained in magazines 1, 2, 3 and 4. A plate or separator is discharged simultaneously from each magazine as shown and delivered by belt 11 to container 12. The weight of the plates and separators depresses container 12 so as to operate switch 15 after a pile of the four articles has been formed. This restarts motor 13 to repeat the cycle. Magazine (Fig. 2).-Each magazine filled with either plates or separators 9 has its discharge controlled by reciprocating claws 8 and by oscillating arm 9, the latter carrying gripping jaw 6 and claw 7 which are resiliently mounted. Each claw 8 is operated by a pneumatic piston 82. As shown in Fig. 2 the pile of plates 9 rests on claws 8. Claws 8 are withdrawn and simultaneously arm 5 moves to the left so that the body of the plates 9 is supported by jaws 6, the claws 7 being inserted between the lowermost plate and the next plate above so that the lowermost plate is released whilst the rest of the stack is held. The movement of claws 8 is coupled with the movement of belt 11 to form a block of plates and separators in container 12 of the required size. When the block is removed the operation of switch 15 causes the cycle to be repeated. |
