PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the characteristics of a continuously variable transmission by making a motor generator and the transmission act in concert with each other. SOLUTION: A motor generator 12 is attached to the output shaft 11a of an engine 11 and the output side of the generator 12 is connected to the input side of a forwarding-backwarding switching mechanism 17. The output side of the mechanism 17 is connected to the input shaft 20 of a belt type continuously variable transmission(CVT) 21. An electronic control unit(ECU) detects the number of revolutions of the output shaft 11a of the engine 11 or the variation of the input number of revolutions of the CVT 21. The ECU calculates the inertial torque of the motor generator l2, based on the preset moments of inertia of the engine 11 and CVT 21 and controls the generator 12 so that the generator 12 can output the calculated torque.
