PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize harmful heavy metals in waste so as to prevent the re- elution thereof by mixing and kneading a waste treatment material based on a compd. containing a functional group such as a hydroxyl group, a carboxyl group or a nitroso group in its molecule with harmful substance-containing waste and ageing the resulting kneaded mixture to solidify the same. SOLUTION: 3-50wt.% of a waste treatment material based on a compd. containing two or more functional groups such as hydroxyl groups, carboxyl groups or nitroso groups in its molecule in total is mixed with waste containing a harmful substance such as lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium, copper, nickel or zinc in a powdery state, a soln. state or a suspension state and, if necessary, water is added to be kneaded with them and the resulting mixture is aged and solidified. As the compd., at least one kind of a compd. selected from a group consisting of pyrogarol, gallic acid, tannic acid, shikimic acid, tartaric acid, mucic acid, ascorbic acid, 2-nitrosophenol, 1-nitroso-2-naphthol and 2- nitroso-1-naphthol is used. |
