PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a recording agent such as ink from being wasted unnecessary for recording by deciding the kind of a replaceable recording head and urging a user to replace a mounted recording head according to a selected operation mode and its decision result. SOLUTION: A CPU checks which of a recording head dedicated to monochromatic recording and a recording head for color recording a currently mounted cartridge is. When the recording head for color recording is mounted in facsimile mode, a message which urges the device user to replace the cartridge is displayed on an LCD panel 67 on a console panel, so the device user can easily judges that the currently mounted cartridge is the recording head for color recording. Consequently, replacement with the recording head dedicated to monochromatic recording is promoted, and consequently color ink is prevented from being wasted while the user does not notice that the recording head for color recording is mounted. |
