PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide dental floss which has excellent adsorbability of DENTAL plaque-forming bacterial and exhibits a higher plaque control effect by coating floss yarn with a vinyl copolymer having a specific structure and compsn. SOLUTION: This dental floss having a high plaque control effect is formed by using the vinyl copolymer which consists of the monomer unit expressed by the formula [where, R<1> denotes a benzyl group, 4 to 16C alkyl group or pentafluorophenyl methyl group, and (x) denotes halogen] and styrene monomer unit and which the polymn. molar ratio of the monomer of the formula and the styrene monomer is 25:55:45, the quatenarization rate is 40 to 100% and the viscosity-average mol.wt. is 50,000 to 1,500,000. The floss yarn of <=100μg/ml in potassium permanganate comsuption per 1g of the yarn at the time of carrying out the elution test stipulated by Food Sanitation act is coated with this vinyl copolymer, by which the required dental floss is obtd.
