PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject high-purity compound in high yield under a mild condition without generating a corrosive vapor by reacting a specific trichloromethylbenzene derivative with a hydrated zirconium compound, slightly coloring, useful as an intermediate for a dye, a medicine, an agrochemical, etc. SOLUTION: (A) A compound of formula I (R is H, a lower alkyl, nitro, a halogen, an acyl, an ester group, amino or cyano; X is 1-3) is reacted with (B) (B1 ) a compound of the formula ZrO2 .nH2 O ((n) is the number of hydrations and is a positive number, especially 1-10) or (B2 ) a compound of the formula ZrOCl2 .nH2 O (e.g. zirconium hydroxide-containing B1 obtained by neutralizing/ precipitating a zirconium mineral acid salt) to give a compound of formula II. |
