PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the operation of a town gas apparatus which can stably maintain the composition of a product gas and can ideally regulate the flow rate of a purge gas to maintain the heat balance by providing a particular device. SOLUTION: In an apparatus for producing a town gas, wherein a reformed gas, comprising methane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, etc., prepd. by low-temp. steam reforming of desulfurized petroleum-derived hydrocarbons, is treated by means of a two-stage in-line membrane device and a gas, which could not have permeated through the first stage membrane device, is used as a raw material for 13A gas with a gas, which has permeated through the second stage membrane device is used as a purge gas, when a gas, which has permeated through the first stage membrane device, is pressurized by means of a compressor and then fed into the second stage membrane device, a first flow controller 1 is disposed in a pipe conduit for a gas fed into the second stage membrane device and, at the same time, a regulator 1A is disposed in a pipe conduit for separating a part of a gas on the delivery side of the compressor in the upstream portion of the first flow controller 1 to regulate the flow rate and to separate the gas, the separated gas being returned, together with the gas which has not permeated through the second stage membrane device, to the upstream side of the first stage membrane device to regulate the flow rate of the gas fed into the second stage membrane device. |
