By changing the number of lines stored in the RAM of a microcomputer, that is, the number of picture elements being the object to be processed in the perpendicular direction in accordance with the number of signals of one line in a two-dimensional sensor area being the feature extraction processing object in the detection of the line of sight, the number of picture elements to which the feature extraction processing in the perpendicular direction is performed is increased.
