PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a formed material of active carbon fibers having a uniformized density of the active carbons and adsorption performances and a high strength by adding a small amount of thermally fusible fibers to the active carbon fibers, mixing both with pressurized air, compressing the resultant mixture in a forming mold and heating the resultant formed material. SOLUTION: Thermally fusible fibers in an amount of 0.1-8 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. active carbon fibers are uniformly mixed therewith in a mixing container while dispersing both with pressurized air. The resultant mixture is then pressurized and compressed in a forming mold, heated in a hermetically closed forming mold until both the fibers are mutually bonded, then cooled to normal temperatures and taken out of the forming mold. A paper strengthening agent need not be added thereto without requiring the conversion of the active carbon fibers into a forming slurry. |
