PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and industrially obtain the subject compound selectively in dl-isomer by oxidatively dimerizing an acrylacetic ester derivative by treatment with titanium tetrachloride and an amine in an aprotic solvent, useful an asymmetric ligand and a reagent for optical resolution. SOLUTION: (A) A compound of formula I (R is an alkyl or an aralkyl; Ar is an aromatic nucleus) is treated with (C) titanium tetrachloride and (D) an amine such as triethylamine in (B) an aprotic solvent such as an aromatic solvent, a halogenated solvent, etc., and the component A is oxidatively dimerized to give a compound of formula II. The amounts of the components C and D are >=0.5mol equivalent based on the component A, respectively and the reaction is carried out at <=30 deg.C. |
