LIGHTING DEVICE FOR ELECTRODELESS DISCHARGE LAMP

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such a lighting device for an electrodeless discharge lamp as being capable of improving itself in emission efficiency and starting performance and making itself smaller. SOLUTION: An electrodeless discharge lamp 1 for which discharge gas is filled in a bulb, a high frequency power supply 3 to transform AC power into AC high frequency power and a high frequency power supply coil 2 circulated around and arranged close to the electrodeless discharge lamp 1 are provided. The high frequency power supply 3 is stored in a metal shell case 5 and the electrodeless discharge lamp 1 around which an induction coil 2 is circulated and closely arranged is arranged on the upper face of the shell case 5 and covered with a shield case 4 grid-shaped with metal wires to prevent radiation noise. A relationship among the shortest distance L1 between the induction coil 2 and the shield case 4, the shortest distance L2 between the induction coil 2 and the upper face of the shell case 5 and the diameterϕof the induction coil 2 circulated around the electrodeless discharge lamp 1 is optimized.
