PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To industrially and inexpensively purify the subject compound in high purity and in high yield by heat-treating a crudeα-hydroxyalkyl acrylate containing an acetal compound and purifying it. SOLUTION: A crudeα-hydroxyalkyl acrylate containing an acetal compound as an impurity is heat-treated optionally in the presence of an acid such as sulfuric acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid, etc., an alkali such as sodium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, sodium (hydrogen)carbonate at 20-150 deg.C and purified by distillation purification, etc. The heat treatment is preferably carried out by adding a polymerization initiator such as (methyl)hydroquinone, etc., and molecular oxygen.
