The braking force is reduced by the brake block (33), which can be loaded by the brake cylinder (9), by way of suspension shackles (31) and having been converted into the control pressure (S) in a transducer (29) is fed back to the brake valve (1) as a measuring signal. The load braking device ensures that regardless of variations in the coefficient of friction on the brake block (33), which may be due to different vehicle speeds or load states of the vehicle, a certain, constant braking force is achieved in each braking stage so that predetermined braking distances and smooth braking decelerations of the individual coaches in the train can be adhered to. <IMAGE>
