PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a high-quality color picture by making the light of a specified color incident on liquid crystal with low loss without using a color filter. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device 1 is equipped with plural prisms 4a to 4c provided corresponding to the respective picture element areas such as a red area R, a green area G and a blue area B in liquid crystal 3 in order to disperse incident light on a light transmissive base plate 2a on a side on which the light from a light source is made incident, and light shielding films 6a to 6d arranged between the plural prisms 4a to 4c and the liquid crystal 3 and shielding the light of colors other than the colors corresponding to the respective picture element areas out of the light dispersed by the prisms 4a to 4c. |
