PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit signals between two devices connected through a communication channel and response signals to the signals. SOLUTION: An editing device 1 is provided with a control function for generating and transmitting a command to a VTR device 3 and also a time-over function and a retry function. A terminal equipment 5a transmits the command from the editing device 1 through a public network 4 to the VTR device 3 and transmits the response signals from the VTR device 3 to the VTR device 3. When time-over is to be generated in the editing device 1, the terminal equipment 5a prevents the generation of the time-over in the editing device 1 by transmitting some kind of the response signals such as NAK or the like.
