An area is fumigated by automatically pulverising a liquid product, under control of a microprocessor (M), according to the conditions and circulation of air in the area. The fluid for pulverisation is stored in a vessel (RP1 and RP2) and pumped (PP) to a spray nozzle (3). The fluid is sprayed onto a wall, heated to a temperature higher than the vapourisation temperature of the fluid, causing it to immediately vapourise and discharged into the atmosphere, as a gas, via an opening (12) above.
