The refrigerator or freezer has a thermally-insulated housing (11) having a hinged front access door (19) provided with a magnetic seal (21) around its peripheral edge. The suction pressure caused by opening the door or by the cooling of the air within the interior (15) of the housing is equalised by a pressure equalisation device. This is provided by a pipe (23) extending between the interior of the housing and the outside air and fitted with a valve (24) at its iter end. Preferably the pipe fits through the thermal insulation jacket (14) of the housing.
