Crystalline disodium 4,41 - bis - (4 - anilino-6 - morpholino - s - triazin - 2 - ylamino) - 2,21-stilbenedisulphonate may be employed as a brightening agent in detergent compositions. In Example 5, detergent compositions described contain the above crystalline derivative or its amorphous analogue and sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate, sodium sulphate and trisodium phosphate.ALSO:Crystalline disodium 4,41-bis(4-anilino-6-morpholino-s -triazin-2-ylamino)-2,21-stilbene disulphonate may be obtained by heating the corresponding amorphous compound at 90-200 DEG C. with 0.5-5 molar proportions of aniline or morpholine (or a mixture thereof) in an aqueous medium having an initial pH of 8 to 12 until 80-100% of the amorphous starting material is in the form of crystalline needles. The amorphous starting material may be obtained by a conventional process.ALSO:Textile materials may be treated with a composition comprising crystalline disodium 4, 4/sv -bis-(4-anilino-6-morpholino-s-triazin-2-ylamino)-2, 2/sv-stilbenedisulphonate. In example 5 white cotton swatches are treated with a detergent composition comprising the above crystalline compound or its amorphous analogue, and sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate, sodium sulphate and trisodium phosphate; examples in which the composition also contains sodium hypochlorite are also given. |
