A process for preparing albumin-free lysozyme comprises desalting an aqueous solution of crude lysozyme or its salts containing albumins and inorganic salts as impurities, adjusting the pH of the desalted solution to not more than 0.5 by the addition of buffer solution and filtering said solution by using an anion-exchange cellulose or anion-exchange dextran as a filtering material, adsorbing said albumins on said filtering material and obtaining albumin-free lysozyme as filtrate. The desalting may be brought about by the use of anion- and cation-exchange resins.
