The lining system has a catalytically acting material included in a fire resistant dressing forming the lining (22). The catalytic material is applied as a layer (21,25) onto the fire resistant material (20) of the lining on the side facing the combustion chamber. The catalytic material can be applied as a slip (25) and the lining is built up from bricks (20), plates (21,23) or the like.
