Aerial stay mechanical properties simple, low cost and clear diagnosis

A method for measuring and controlling the mechanical characteristics of, esp. anchoring, cables or stays on steel lattice pylons for aerials and other structures comprises: (i) introducing acoustic waves into the cable (3) or stay (2) under working conditions by a vibration transmitter or exciter (8); (ii) determining by measurement equipment (5), vibration parameters e.g. resonances, natural frequency, decay times, bandwidths at half peak intensity for fixed frequencies and subsequent propagation times; and (iii) calculating the test or control results from these by computation equipment. Also claimed is the same method where the vibration parameters are entered into a data store and developed by a microprocessor into test results and protocols or compared with earlier determined parameters or both together.
