The recording disc (4) is fitted with a central hub (5) held in contact with a bearing surface (11) by the retaining permanent magnets (10). The hub has a planar circular magnetic metal plate (6) and an annular element (7) of a plastics resin material around the outside of the metal plate. The retaining permanent magnets cooperate with the surface of the metal plate, lying within the annular element, with the bottom surface of the annular element resting on the bearing surface and supporting the recording surface of the recording disc.
