A metal halide lamp for producing high-intensity ultraviolet radiation contains an inert gas and a filler. The filler includes iodine and/or bromine, mercury and molybdenum, and preferably also iron. Preferable overall concentrations of the filler components are: halides, at a concentration of about 0.03-1.2 mg/cm<3>; mercury, at a concentration of about 0.3-5.5 mg/cm<3>; iron at a concentration of about 0.005-0.04 mg/cm<3>; and molybdenum at a concentration of about 0.006-0.120 mg/cm<3>. Cobalt can be optionally included at a concentration of about 0.004-0.04 mg/cm<3>. The molybdenum is preferably introduced in the form of metal powder. The iodate and/or bromate is preferably introduced in the form of the corresponding mercury halides. |
