The apparatus (10) is intended, with aid of an objective lens (2), to form an image of an object lying in a plane parallel to the plane of the objective lens. The image is formed on a light-sensitive surface (4) mounted at the back of the housing (1), comprising equally sized equally spaced CCD sensors. The objective lens is mounted on the front of the housing, and this can be simple or compound. At the rear or back of the housing there is a cassette (3), with the light-sensitive surface in the form of half a tube. The half tube can be moved along its axis, in order to reduce distortions.
