Prodn. of thermoplastic foam with syntactic foam structure

A process for the prodn. of thermoplastic foam with a syntactic foam structure on extruders or injection moulding machines from commercial bulk plastics with melting or softening temps. of 375-450 K (I), such as LDPE, HDPE, high-mol. wt. EVA copolymers with vinyl acetate (VAC) contents of less than 30%, PP or PS, using gas- or liq.-filled microspheres which expand on heating. The novelty is that 5-50 wt% of soft and/or low- melting plastic or unvulcanised rubber (II) is added to (I) before extrusion or injection moulding.
