The method wears away material from defined zones, using a tool for polishing or grinding with a mainly flat working surface. This executes movements relative to the surface being machined, and acts on it with a fixed pressure. The movement follows a defined curved path, which is generated by the superimposition of two rotational motions on a linear displacement. The centre of the tool rotates about a point which describes a spiral. The polishing or grinding surface of the tool lies tangentially, at every point on the surface of the workpiece.
