The high-power electrical connector has hollow cylindrical element 14 set into a housing of insulating material. Located in the cylinder is a contact element 12 that can be displaced axially against a coil spring 13. The contact pin is in contact with the inner surface of the cylinder via a contact band 15 that is formed of thin spring type metal and has a mesh pattern. This allows free axial movement of the pin while preventing radial movement. The contact pin is displaced when inserted into a mating connector.
