The velocity display device provides an acoustic warning signal when the actual vehicle velocity is above a given value or within a defined velocity range. The acoustic signal can be provided by a separate sound generator unit (2), coupled to a loudspeaker (4), which is controlled directly or indirectly by the vehicle tachometer (3) or velocity indicator, using a mechanical or electronic method. The permissible vehicle velocity may be provided by a roadside transmitter (6) coupled to an onboard receiver (7).
