The actuator has at least 2 similarly shaped planar elements (PE1,PE2), stacked one above the other perpendicular to their planar surfaces, coupled together to allow their relative axial movement along the stacking axis (AX). The periphery of each planar element has at least 3 equi-angularly spaced guides parallel to the stacking axis for respective flexible operating elements (BS1,BS2) secured at one end of the stack and displaced axially at the opposite end, in response to exerted compression or tension.
