A process for producing carboxylic acids from olefines and carbon monoxide in the presence of water and a halogen-free catalyst system at temperatures of 30 to 200 DEG C and pressures of 30 to 200 bar, in which a mixture of rhodium or a rhodium compound and at least one nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound are used as the catalyst system.
