Rapid, economic construction of rectangular filter element from zig-zag pack of nonwoven fabric by attaching sealing strips

In this method a filter element is constructed from a folded pack of nonwoven fibres. Sealing strips are applied to the long edges of the pack. In the novel construction, sealing strips (4, 5) are first formed in a folding machine, to a V-section. Heating followed by cooling, stabilises this shape. Adhesive is applied to the areas (4.1, 5.1) of the strips facing the pack, and/or to the facing edges of the pack itself. Bonding is completed by pressing together, with simultaneous energy supply. Also claimed is a filter element made as described, such that the second limb (4.2, 5.2) forms a pretensioned elastic seal against the filter casing.
