Improvements in or relating to coated heat reflectors and infrared lamp heaters equipped therewith

A heat reflector comprises a metallic substrate 11 having a concave inner surface, a thin adherent infrared reflecting lining 13 of a precious metal and a thin layer 12 of refracting oxide between the substrate 11 and the layer 13 to prevent interdiffusion. The precious metal may be gold, palladium, platinum, rhodium or alloys of these metals. The substrate may be of stainless steel and the intermediate layer an oxide of cerium, aluminium, beryllium, chromium, hafnium, magnesium, thorium, ytterbium, manganese, silicon, zinc or zirconium. The reflecting layer may be formed by brushing or spraying followed by firing, a metallic resinate composition.
