The novel feature in a cyan dye-donor element for thermal dye transfer imaging is that the dye dispersed in the polymeric binder of the dye layer is a mixt. of at least 2 different 2-carbamoyl-4-(N-(p-aminoaryl) imino)-1,4-naphthoquinone dyes each of formula (I) but with the provisos that (i) at least 50% of the dye mixt, is of formula (I) with R1 = Me, R2 = R3 = Et, R4 = H, X = H and n = 4; and (ii) at least one of the other dyes is of formula (I) with R1 = -(CH2)mR5, X = H and n = 4, where R5 1-6C branched alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl or 6-10C aryl (each opt. substd.), alkoxycarbonyl, aryloxycarbonyl, acetyl, aroyl, alkyl- or aryl-aminocarbonyl, alkyl- or aryl-aminocarbonyloxy, acylamino, aryloxy, acyloxy or arylsulphonamido and m = 1-4. In (I) R1-R3 are 1-6C alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl or 6-10C aryl (each opt. substd.) or allyl and with R2 and R3 opt. combining together (or singly or together with X) to form a 5- or 6-membered ring; R4 and X are H, 1-6C opt. substd. alkyl, halogen, -NHCOR1 or -NHSO2R1; and n is 1,2,3 or 4; Dyes (I) are as per JP60/239289 and US4695287. |
