This invention relates to a technology of digital audio and video data distribution in which audio and video reproduction is not disturbed when channels are switched. Only channel data switched by a digital processing control circuit is outputted and a reset signal is generated for a microcomputer (718) so that a reproduction circuit (517) for compressed digital audio and video data may be reset. In this way, a memory for the audio and video data is initialized and discontinuous portions of the compressed digital data caused by channel switching are discarded. This invention is suitable for video selection/distribution system used inside a limited range such as in hotels, hospitals, and so forth.
