A speed change control method of automatic transmission comprising the step determining the motion of system; the process signal input step sensing the car speed and the open state of a throttle valve; the calculating step obtaining average values and divided values by using the car speed & the open state of the throttle valve inputted is said process signal input step; the safe cruising decision step deciding the safe cruising or not by comparing the divided values calculated said calculating step with the established values; the speed change decision step deciding the speed change state of the transmission; the safe cruising redecision step deciding embodying safe cruising by speed changed transmission gear if the transmission is changed in said speed change decision step; the A change pattern establishing step maintaining the present cruising mode when decided in safe cruising in said safe cruising decision step and safe cruising redecision step; the B change pattern establishing step fixing the gear to the present cruising mode when decided in nonsafe cruising in said safe cruising decision step and safe cruising redecision step; and the transmission control step controlling the transmission in patterns established in said A change pattern establishing step & B change pattern establishing step is disclosed. Thereby, it is possible to maintain accelerating performance by effecting speed change suitable to present car state.
