The use of Ng-monomethyl-L-arginine, in a dose from 0.1 mg to 100 mg per kg of weight, allows one to increase the time for which one can engage in physical exercise until exhausted. These increases in the capacity for exercise have been obtained in trained and untrained animals. An increase of more than 25% in the maximum time to exhaustion has been obtained in the trained animals. In the untrained animals the increase is up to 300%. The use of Ng-monomethyl-L-arginine for the manufacture of preparations which are intended to increase the capacity for physical exercise, or help in training of the muscles, is claimed.
