The present invention refers to a process for the conversion of a hydrocarbon residual oil, preferably a hydrocarbon oil residue, obtained by vacuum distillation, the process comprising the following steps: a) deasphalting residual oil from hydrocarbons to produce an asphaltic fraction and a deasphalted oil (DAO); b) passing DAO through a catalyst bed for hydrodemetallizing in the presence of hydrogen, under demetallizing conditions, to produce an improved DAO; and c) mixing the DAO so improved with one or more distilled fractions obtained by instantaneous distillation, and subjecting the resulting mixture stream to hydropyrolysis, to produce one or more distilled fractions.
