1,103,172. Centrifugal liquid-liquid contactor. W. G. P. DOYLE and C. M. DOYLE. 28, April. 1966 [7, May, 1965], No. 18770/66. Heading B1F. In a centrifugal countercurrent exchange apparatus as described in Specification 963,166, wherein the discs (46) of the disc columns (42) are substantially the same size as the holes in the separator bands (32) and are located so that each disc is within one of said holes, the discs have indentations in their peripheries providing communication with opposite sides of said bands, and the discs of a given column are supported on a common central supporting rod (41). As shown in Fig. 2, to which the above numerals relate, the indentations (indicated by a broken line across the thickness of the discs) on adjacent discs are out of register by 180‹ so that liquid passing therethrough strikes an imperforate portion of the adjacent disc, and the size of the indentations progressively increases along the column. Numerous embodiments of disc are described (Figs. 7-20) in which the indentations are angular, arcuate, such as to produce a venturi with the separator band holes, and in the form of channels extending round the periphery. Alternate discs may be of different kinds.
