This invention discloses a belt conveyor, including a band operation monitoring mechanism, wherein permanent magnets (18) are fixed to the band material in a spaced apart relationship, and longitudinally to the band (14) trajectory (20), a permanent magnet (18) each one provided, seen in the band displacing direction (13) preceding and succeeding a connection (14) and immediately adjacent the clamp connection wherein a sensor (17) is connected to a data processing unit in which sensor signals provided by the sensor (17), when going through permanent magnets (18), are related to differences in time and distance, or both, and show the real value thus determined, and it is compared with a predetermined reference value.
